Mama Bear vs. Bureaucracy: Round Two
Thank you to everyone who reached out with advice, suggestions, and sympathy snacks. I finally spoke with the patient advocate at the hospital, and like magic, the neurologist suddenly appeared on the phone. Apparently Noah’s EEG results were “somewhat inconclusive,” which is doctor-speak for “your child moved more than a squirrel on espresso while we were trying to glue wires to his head.”
The parts of the test that did work looked fine, but the neurologist’s grand plan was “watch him closely and bring him back if he seizes again.” After conferring with Noah’s dad and stepdad, we agreed this was less of a medical strategy and more of a gambling problem.
Thankfully, Noah’s rock-star pediatrician swooped in and sent a referral to Hopkins. We now have a second opinion appointment in a couple of weeks. Sure, it will be three months post-seizure by then, but at least it will not be “wait and hope” medicine.
Mama Bear: 1
Bureaucracy: still trying to find its paperwork.
